Section welcomes the Woman Advocate Committee

W              omen litigators thought
things were going to be get-
tlng easier. You know, mere
women colleagues In firms,
more understanding from
the powers that be.
But It's not working out that way. Matter
of fact, some say It's getting worse for
women.
That's why the Litigation Section has a
new committee this year, the Woman Advo-
cate Committee. The concept originated
hack In 1092-1993. It was then called the
Woman Advocate Program that put together
an annual two-day conference In the spring
each year. That first year, 1,000 women
allowed up.
Loulso LaMothe from Los Angeles was
chair of the entire Section that year. She
remembers the heady time at that first
meeting: We looked at particular Issues
faced by women litigators, such as, 'low to
deal with an adversary who's an SOB In a
deposition.'
But It wasn'tJust the program content
that meant something to those who came.
Some time was set aside for networking,
LaMothe says, A lot of the attendees felt
very isolated in their firms and communi-
ties.
