22 Legal Reference Services Q. 1 (2003)

handle is hein.journals/lgrefsq22 and id is 1 raw text is: Introduction
It has been well over a year since the Law Librarians' Society of Washington,
DC agreed to compile sample pathfinders of federal agency research for a spe-
cial issue of Legal Reference Services Quarterly. Law and special librarians in
the Washington, DC metropolitan area undoubtedly are tasked routinely, if not
daily, with accessing and navigating the labyrinth of federal agency laws, regu-
lations, interpretative releases, memoranda, dockets, etc., etc.
These sample pathfinders or knowledge paths represent the input of gov-
ernment, academic and private law firm librarians with a varied patron base
and institutional mission. This compilation of knowledge paths is as dy-
namic as the agencies represented and the librarians that provide research
guidance. The diversity of style and content are equally unique and dynamic
and represent typical research needs of the constituencies served. Beginning
research and the consequent circuitous routes that legal research, and particu-
larly regulatory research, travel are well represented herein.
