     COURT OF APPEAL JUDGES
     SERVE ON SUPREME COURT
     Six Court of Appeal judges have already served as
Associate Justices pro tempore of the Louisiana Supreme
Court to hear crimina, cases. Before the end of 1981, all of
the Courts of Appeal judges will have had the opportunity to
fami    - arize themse yes in this manner, with the criminal
appellate procedure, according to Chief Justice John A Dixon,
Jr.
    Recent passage of a constitutona anerdme   will
trarsfer most criminal appel ate jurisdiction fro the Supreme
Court to the Courts ot Appeal which currently have ony civil
appe late jurisdici. The transfer will be effectiye July 1
1982.
    Three Court of Appeal judges at a time join four members
of the Sureme Court dur ing a portion of the cririnal docket
each cycle and participate in those cases until the opinions
are rendered,
    Some Court of Appeal judges have had little or no cri mina
experience and this program along with educational seminars

 books to a modern library whose
 collection is classifed according to
 the Library of Congress
 classification scheme and which
 has joined the Southeastern Library  Harriett Lemann
 Network
 (SOLINET), a computerized cataloging system. The Library's
 reference services have expanded to include searches for
 materials in other libraries, interlibrary loan, availability of
 important collections in microform and the valuable resources
 offered by the constantly growing United States government
 documents collection.
     Together with her staff of five full-time and four part-time
 empl!oyees, Miss Lemann has assisted countless lawyers,
 students and other patrons of the ibrary and has superverised
 the organization and updating of the library's collection of
 materia s

 in English Ltature from Newcomb Colege; an M.A. degree

misconduct by judges or their failure to perform their official
duties.
     McDougal, who was selected by the Louisiana District
Judges Association succeeds Metairie optometrist, Dr.
Warren Ales, whose term expired.
    Cook, selected by the Conference of Court of Appeal
Judges, will replace Richard E. Gerard, Sr., a Lake Charles
attorney, whose term also expired. Members of the
