The Knights of Columbus was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut in 1882 with
some of his Catholic parishioners to give financial aid to widows and orphans in case of the death of the
breadwinner in the family. This evolved into a life insurance program with nearly 1.3 million members and more
than $70 billion in life insurance policies. In conjunction with the Marist College Institute of Public Opinion in New
York, they conducted a survey in February and March of 2009 to study the issue of ethics in business, interviewing
