EDITORIAL



           James Crawford Prize: Winner and

                        Runner-Up Named


The  winner of the James Crawford Prize 2015 is Joshua Karton, Assistant Professor
at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, for his article entitled 'The Arbitral Role
in Contractual Interpretation'. To take the discussion in this article further, a debate
between   Assistant Professor Karton  and  Professor  Stefan Vogenauer   of the
University of Oxford will appear in one of the following issues of JIDS in 2015.
   The  Prize Committee  has  also formally nominated a runner-up  to the Prize:
Mihail Krepchev, in private practice in London, for an article entitled 'The Problem
of Accommodating   Indigenous Land Rights in International Investment Law'.
   The Prize Committee  extends its warmest congratulations to both scholars.
   Prior winners of the Prize are:

   In 2014, Richard Frimpong Oppong  and Lisa C. Niro, both of Thompson
   Rivers  University in Kamloops, British Columbia, for an article entitled
   'Enforcing Judgments  of International Courts in National Courts'.
   In 2012, Fuad Zarbiyev, in private practice in New York, for an article entitled
   'Judicial Activism in International Law: A Conceptual Framework for
   Analysis'. The runner-up in 2012 was Kimberley Trapp, then at the
   University  of Cambridge, with an article entitled 'Holding States Responsible
   for  Terrorism before the International Court of Justice' (which had been
   submitted  to the Prize with the title 'Implementing State Responsibility for
   International Terrorism: ICJ Jurisdiction and the Bosnia Genocide Case').

   The  Prize Committee is composed  of Tom  Grant, Andrew  Mitchell, and me, in
consultation with members  of the editorial board specialized in the subject matter
areas of the submissions.
