OCTOBER 1990
A Periodic Report to the Members of the Section
of Public Utility, Communications and
Transportation Law
ofthe
American Bar Association

SECTION NAME CHANGE APPROVED!
You now know it. The name of the Section has been changed from the Section of Public Utility Law to
the Section of Public Utility, Communications and Transportation Law. This change took much effort on the
part of our Section Delegate, Harold Russell, and many other members of the Section.
At the Mid-Year Meeting of the ABA House of Delegates in Los Angeles in February 1990, the
proposed name change was opposed by representatives from the ABA Section of Science and Technology, the
ABA Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice (until quite recently, the ABA Section of
Administrative Law), the ABA Forum Committee on Communications, and the Federal Communications Bar
Association. They asked for a deferral of the proposal and got it.
But we won in Chicago!
The new Section name better reflects the activities of the Section membership. But whatever its name,
the Section aspires to maintain its high tradition of quality service to its members and the Bar.
