Section Forum
On
CATV - Info Services
The Section of Public Utility
Law and Its Communications Law
Committee will conduct a Forum
on Information Services and
Cable Television on November 15
and 16, in Washington, DC, at
the Mayflower Hotel.
The regulatory environment
surrounding the offering of
information services is changing.
So is the technology by which
such services can be offered. This
Forum will examine Information
and entertainment services, how
they can be offered, and the
impact of the convergence of two
industries: local exchange
telephone and cable television.
The following are just some of the
questions that will be addressed:
@ Will telephone companies be
allowed into CATV? If so, how?
Will they build their own facilities
or will they buy out existing
operators?
* What limits, If any, are
appropriate for telephone
company provision of CATV? Full
Service, Channel Service, or No
Service?
* Can CATV be an effective
player in the Information services
arena?
e What Is the near-term and
long-term viability of the
information and entertainment
services marketplace? Who will
buy? How much will they buy?
