BULLETIN
Editor: Professor Dr. B. LANDHEER
Number VI
December 1962.
THE PRESIDENT' S LETTER
Recently the Board of Directors of the International Associ-
ation of Law Libraries took action on two matters of vital interest to
members:
(1) The Board of Directors decided that the next meeting of
the Association be held in 1964. The meeting is scheduled for July 6
and 7 in London and July 9 and 10 at The Hague, and we hope to have a
subsequent tour of the outstanding law libraries on the European
Continent from July 11 to 23. The primary theme of the meeting will
be to provide a basic acquaintance with essential phases of the emerging
European law, to visit law libraries which are known to all of us by
name, but have not been seen by most of us. A meeting of this nature
is also excellently suited to establish personal contacts among law
librarians of various countries -contacts which are lik ely to result
in subsequent cooperation among law libraries on an international level.
Your Vice.President, K. Howard Drake, has been appointed Convention
Chairman, and in due course you will hear more from your officers
concerning this unique opportunity to enrich your professonal knowledge
and experience.
(2) The Board of Directors decided to submit a constitutional
amendment for your vote in order to increase the membership of the Board
from 12 to 15. This increase is desired by many who feel that law
librarians from a wider range of countries should be represented
on the Board. The amendment would 'also have the incidental effect of
providing for a gradual replacement of the Directors so as to assure
continuity qf experience with Association work on the Board. The billot
will be sent to you soon.
There are other Association activities which are of interest
to you. We have been able to make substantial progress with our
Exchange Program. Dr. Siroana, or Rome, has finished herstay at Stanford
University Law Library. Miss Rossier, of Lausanne, continues her work
at Harvard Law Library and soon Dr. Klaus Lbffler, of Saarbr'cken will
start a one-year internship at New York University Law Library with one
month's work-assigned at the Los Angeles County Law Library. We have a
tentative openiig f6r ai Asiatic law librarian at an American law school
library and have been asked whether a non-European law librarian would be
interested in an exchange librarianship in Switzerland. If you are
interested in gathering foreign experiences, please get in touch with
your officers..
Our Association is small in membershirp yet large in aims and
purposes. With the devoted work of Dr. Landheer, we hope to publish our
Bulletin on a quarterly schedule; whether we will be able to do so
depends largely on the active cooperation of the Association' s members.
Please send your contributions to Dr. Landheer and let us know what
