ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND WELCOME
Before the reader turns to the opening essay of this first issue of
1991, I take this occasion to publicly acknowledge and thank a number
of people who have ably assisted the editorial process during the past
few years, and to welcome six persons who have agreed to join the
Editorial Board.
I extend my appreciation to Thomasine Kushner, Ph.D., who
served as co-editor during the initial years of establishing H E C Forum
on a sound foundation.
Julius Landwirth, M.D., J.D., in addition to his appointment as
Director of the Department of Pediatrics at Hartford Hospital, has
recently accepted the position of Vice President of Medical
Affairs/Medical Director Newington Children's Hospital, Newington,
CT, thereby considerably increasing his already formidable professional
duties, which include his support and advice as an Associate Editor.
Dorothy C. Rasinski-Gregory, M.D., J.D., although recently retired
from the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Long Beach,
California, has accepted the position of Associate, Center for Health
Care Ethics, St. Joseph Health System, Orange, California, and Adjunct
Professor of Medicine, University of California at Irvine. Fortunately,
Dr. Rasinski-Gregory has agreed to continue to serve as an Associate
Editor of H E C Forum.
Morton Cohen, J.D., Kate T. Christensen, M.D., Roy A. Fox,
M.D., Joan McIver Gibson, Ph.D., Kathryn A. Koch, M.D., and Rev.
Ken S. Meece have given generously of their time and effort, and I
wish to thank them for their prior participation in the Improving
Hospital Ethics Committees Project as well as their past service as
members of the Editorial Board.
I am especially pleased to welcome two new persons to the
Editorial Board: Steve Heilig, M.P.H., Associate with the San Francisco
Medical Society; and Judith Wilson Ross, M.A., who retains
appointments at The Center for Healthcare Ethics, Orange, California
and the School of Medicine, University of California at Los Angeles.
On behalf of Pergamon Press, I welcome the new members to the
Editorial Board. Together, we can anticipate a cordial and productive
relationship, as H E C Forum continues to serve the readership of
health care ethics committees throughout North America.
Stuart F. Spicker
Editor-in-Chief
