HEC FORUM: The 10 Anniversary
EDITOR'S APPRECIATION
With the publication of the last issue of volume 10 (1998), my loyal
friend, colleague, and co-editor on whose advice I have come heavily to rely
(since the beginning of our formal collaboration in late 1991), Judith Wilson
Ross, has elected to retire from her role as co-editor of HEC Forum. I owe a
great deal of my understanding of the HEC movement to Judith, whose
important two works on healthcare ethics committees (published under the
auspices of the American Hospital Association in 1986 and 1993, respectively)
have made a major contribution to this initially North American movement. I
personally became familiar with Judith's writings some years prior to the
appearance of the first volume of Forum. As the readership is well aware, Judith
is not only a superb editor, but a highly respected thinker and scholar. I will
sorely miss her participation as co-editor. Fortunately for me, however, she has
agreed to serve as a member of the Editorial Board. I therefore remain confident,
since I've been reassured that I may call upon Judith for her invaluable counsel.
Forum was originally published in 1989 by Pergamon Press. I wish to
thank Thomasine Kushner, who published early assessments of the movement,
and served as co-editor of the first two volumes,
Initiating volume 11 with this issue, I take this occasion to thank the
Managing Editor of the journal, the former Ms. Denise Parris (taking this
occasion to congratulate her on her recent marriage to Mr. Christopher J. Smith
of Canton, CT). Denise's devotion to Forum for the ten years of its publication
reveals itself once again in this conversion to Corel, WordPerfect for
Windows!
I extend my appreciation to the Section Editors and the Members of the
Editorial Board. In addition, as with all editors, I continue to depend on the
many contributors and peer reviewers who serve the journal by extending
unselfishly their time and talents.
Finally, the unfailing support of Maja de Keijzer (Humanities & Social
Sciences Division); Alexander W. Schimmelpenninck (Publisher); and the
competent and cooperative people at Dordrecht (Production), enables Kluwer's
editors, like myself, to see the quarterly issues through Kluwer Academic
Publishers in confidence.
