Since 1989, Hastings Journal on Gender and the Law, formerly
the Hastings Women's Law Journal, has provided a forum for voices
outside the traditional scope of legal academic scholarship. We offer
and maintain an inclusive space for feminism, race theory, queer the-
ory, multiculturalism, animal rights, disability rights, language rights,
international human rights, children's rights, criminal defendants'
rights, victims' rights, criminal justice reform, among others.

This perspective embraces difference and celebrates diversity.
HJGL enhances the school's academic diversity and contributes to
scholarly thought by publishing articles and student notes that present
a critical perspective of traditional legal discourse. We strongly be-
lieve that the law is a solution for the ills of the human condition, not
merely a means of gaining and preserving privilege and position. To
that end, HJGL is a progressive law journal that offers women and men
the opportunity to work on provocative legal issues through a tradi-
tional journal experience.
