PPR is disseminated globally and it is a purely international journal in scope, philosophy and practice. Bearing eloquent testi- mony to its international character, this first issue presents articles from around the globe. PPR encourages multi-disciplinary approaches and it is a pleasure to note that contributors in the first issue of 2015 are from disciplines of Engineering, Sports Sciences and Clinical Biomechanics, Health Promotion, Psychology and Public Affairs. As a matter of fact, only a couple of authors are from Criminology and Criminal Justice. What does it tell us? Dedicated to the ideal of collaboration between police research and practice, the journal welcomes collaborative work between scholars and practitioners as well as research-based contributions of practitioners. The issue does not include research articles by practitioners nor any collaborative work. While the absence of such work in this issue is not a matter of concern, it perhaps testifies to the fact that writings by practitio- ners and collaborative work between practitioners and researchers is by no means abun- dant in the field and PPR, perhaps, is a mirror to the field. This issue carries good news. Research and practice collaboration in policing has become more respected and sought after. Readers will find an announcement of a meet- ing of International Police Executive Symposium (IPES www.ipes.info; PPR is affiliated with IPES). The meeting will be hosted in Pattaya Beach, Thailand, by a team consist- ing of an academic institution and two police organizations. The partners are Shinwatra University, Royal Thai Police and Royal Thai Police Association. We are expecting a big slice of the globe in the meeting, with researchers and practitioners assembling in a congenial venue to discuss, debate, interact and exchange views on issues of research and practice in policing. The mission, mandate and aspiration of PPR are carried forward by two book series, 'Advances in Police Theory and Practice' and 'Interviews with Global Leaders in Policing, Courts and Prisons'. PPR readers are invited to contribute to both the series and thereby to the bigger cause of enrichment of practice by research and vice versa in the world of policing. I am glad to announce that, apart from interviews with police leaders, judges and prison executives, we have just added a new series on prosecutors and defence attorneys. As we begin the New Year for the journal, it must be reiterated that PPR is what the authors, reviewers, readers and the editors bring to it. Thanks in this issue go to Sebastian Sal, a practicing attorney from Argentina, for his thoughtful editorial comments. We encourage contributions befitting our mission and goal. In the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences in Orlando, Florida, (USA) in March, we shall announce the Best Paper Award and the runner-up for the authors of 2014. We wish our readers, editors, reviewers and, last but not the least, our authors and book reviewers A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR. © 2014 Taylor & Francis
