*The author is a U.S. juris doctor and licensed attorney practicing civil litigation in the state of
Washington (US.). The author earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington
in Economics and Political Science, while taking a variety of courses in international politics,
macroeconomics, global trade and international conflict. She furthered her practical
knowledge by studying abroad through the Jackson School of International Studies at the
Harvard  University Center for Hellenic Studies, focusing on migrant and refugee law and
policy in Greece and participating as a fellow in the Slade Gorton Global Leaders Fellowship
Program at the National Bureau ofAsian Research. The author continued her education and
experience in international law while at the Gonzaga University School of Law by competing
in the International Mediation Competition and attending the International Human Rights
Conference, part of the Gonzaga Law-in-Florence Program. The author was also an associate
editor for the Journal of International Law and the Huneke Fellow for the Washington State
Bar Association International Practice Section. The author would like to extend gratitude to
professors Dr. Upendra Acharya and Drew Simshaw for their support and guidance throughout
the writing and publication process of this piece, as well as the past and present GJIL boards
for their efforts in producing a high-quality journal.
