   COLOMBIAN AND UNITED STATES CONSTITUTIONALISM:
ORIGINALISM VS. LIVING CONSTITUTION, INTERPRETIVE
                          METHODS:
             POLITICS ELABORATELY DISGUISED?

                       JOHN VAN DOREN*

       * Many people have helped the writing of this article. My wife,
Sonia Crockett, Esq. was tireless in typing, commenting on and encour-
aging the writing of several drafts. I also want to thank my students at
Sabana University Law School in Chia, Colombia for adding a lot to my
understanding of the comparison of Colombian and United States
Law. Also, Ms. Luisa Dias, now Coordinator of International Programs,
secured my hiring and helped in many ways to facilitate my class at Sa-
bana. One of my colleagues at Florida State University College of Law,
Professor David Landau, gave me encouragement without which this
would not have been written. Ms. Margaret Clark and Reggie Jones
were very helpful as they made available books and articles on Colum-
bian Law. Finally, Ms. Margaret Zinsel, Editor of the Online Publication
of the FSU College of Law Law Review, and her staff did a fine job of ed-
iting and checking sources. Incidentally, I did teach law at FSU College
of Law for about 40 years but Ms. Zinsel was not aware of that. In Janu-
ary and February 2023, I taught a short course at Roger Williams Uni-
versity Law School in Bristol, Rhode Island, including the material in
this article. The students in that course contributed to the formulation of
the final draft. Thanks also to Ms. Misty Peltz-Steele, Associate Law Li-
brarian at RWU Law School, who laboriously collected material cited in
the article for the checking of footnotes.
