MEYER ELKIN (Supervising Conciliation
       Counselor), and STAFF

All of us in the Los Angeles Concil-
iation Court are excited about this Quarterly
and hope that in the not-too-distant future we
can all plan and attend the first California
Conciliation Courts Conference.

Events have moved rapidly here in re-
cent months and here are a few sample
highlights:
........In July, 1962, the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors gave this
Court an award plaque for its out-
       standing service to the community.
     ........In the December, 1962, Reader's
Digest, there appeared an article about
the Court, by Paul Friggens, entitled,
       The Walk-In Court That Rescues
       Rocky Marriages.
........This Court recently adopted the use
of the Port-A-Punch IBM card to carry
out an ongoing research program which
is built into the daily intake proce-
dures. Sociological data from the ap-
plication forms will be obtained in
every case where a Petition For Con-
ciliation has been filed. Our Court is
reportedly the first one in the United
States making use of such research
       procedures, which should provide
invaluable data for articles about dis-
       tressed families and counseling
       approaches to them.

We would like to welcome San Diego
into the family of California Conciliation
Courts. One of our counselors, William
Brockley, was appointed to the counselor's
position in San Diego beginning January 28,
1963. Our best wishes to San Diego for a
 successful first year.
