The four men honored have long been active in the food,
drug, cosmetic journalism field. David Swit is president
of Washington Business Information, Inc. which he found-
ed in 1972 with the Product Safety Letter, which was the
first publication to focus exclusively on government regula-
tion of consumer products. Louis Rothschild, Jr., editor
and publisher of Food Chemical News, founded the
publication in 1959 and in 1972 he launched Pesticide &
Toxic Chemical News. Mr. Rothschild has been covering
the FDA for almost thirty years. Raymond Galant, manag-
ing editor and vice president for Food Chemical News,
joined the publication in 1961 after serving three years as
an editor of F-D-C Reports in charge of coverage for the
FDA. Wallace Werble, Sr., founder of the F-D-C Reports,
Inc. (The Pink Sheet) also founded The Green Sheet
in 1951 and The Blue Sheet in 1957. His son, Cole Wer-
ble, joined F-D-C Reports in 1975 and founded The Gray
Sheet. Mr. Swit, Mr. Rothschild and Mr. Galant had all
worked for Mr. Werble, Sr. who is considered by all to
be the dean of the food and drug trade press.

The 28th Annual Educational Conference was held
December 11-12, 1984 at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill.
Gary L. Yingling, Esq., president of The Food and Drug
Law Institute, welcomed the 900 attendees and the Mon-
signor John Joseph Murphy gave the invocation on Tues-
day morning.
Allan S. Kushen, Esq. of Schering-Plough Corp.,
moderated the session, and speakers included Margaret
Heckler, Dept. of Health and Human Services; Senator
Orrin G. Hatch; Alan H. Kaplan, Esq., Kleinfeld, Kaplan
& Becker; and William B. Schultz, Esq., Public Citizen
Litigation Group.
Sessions on foods, human drugs and biologics - adver-
tising, human drugs and biologics - science, medical
devices and cosmetics were held Tuesday afternoon.
Moderators included Sherwin Gardner, Grocery Manufac-
turers of America; Alvin J. Lorman, Esq., The Proprietary
Association; Bruce Mackler, Esq., Meyer, Faller &
Weisman, P.C.; Stephen A. Weitzman, Esq., Stephen
Weitzman, P.C.; and Harris O. Cutler, Esq., Richardson-
Vicks, Inc.
Sessions on foods, human drugs and biologics, medical
devices and veterinary medicine were held Wednesday
