Effective with Volume 14 (2002), Employee Responsibilities and Rights Journal is
published for the Association on Employment Practices and Principles (AEPP), replacing
the Council on Employee Responsibilities and Rights (CERR). The journal continues its
mission as in the past. The journal will emphasize a more global context, however, to extend
the research and scholarly work on employee responsibilities and rights to attract scholars as
well as practitioners from across the world. The journal continues to encourage those from
diverse backgrounds to contribute their empirical research papers, book reviews, essays,
and position papers on emerging issues and trends in the employee responsibilities and
rights areas.
AEPP is an international organization of scholars and practitioners dedicated to provid-
ing a forum that encourages conceptual and empirical research, evaluates existing and new
methods, and promotes concrete problem-solving to bridge the gap between organizational
concepts and practices in the effective managing of organizations, people, and performance.
The organization reinforces the need to include the integration of an ethical and value-driven
dimension in all areas addressed. Areas of specialized interests vary widely, and include
ethics and philosophy, entrepreneurship, technology and innovation management, organiza-
tional psychology, human resource management, labor relations, and advanced leadership
and management education and research. Virtually all topics and issues confronting diverse
organizations and businesses are addressed by members.
AEPP is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2002. It was originally formed when the
founding parent organization, CERR, became engaged in different strategic initiatives in
1992. CERR was originally created in 1985 by Dr. Chimizie Osigweh, Virginia Distin-
guished Professor of Management, School of Business, at Norfolk State University. Under
his leadership, the underlying paradigm guiding the organization focused on employee-
employer responsibilities and rights from a variety of perspectives including philosophical,
legal, and sociological. In 1989, Dr. John P. Keenan, then Associate Professor of Man-
agement and Founding Director of Leadership Programs at the University of Wisconsin-
Madison's School of Business, replaced Dr. Osigweh with respect to the major leadership
role of CERR. In 1992, Dr. Keenan subsequently took on additional responsibilities as
AEPP's Founding President. Some of the top scholars and practitioners in the field who
shared an active interest in these issues were recruited and helped shape the beginning stages
of the organization.
AEPP holds an annual conference, which attracts scholars and practitioners from
across the globe. Within the context of an informal, relaxed, yet stimulating environment,
the conference encourages an interchange of ideas between practitioners and academics,
close-knit interaction, in-depth exchange of ideas, relationship building, and academic and
personal growth. Each year's best papers are published in a proceedings book. Conferences
have been held in such major cities as San Francisco, New Orleans, Miami Beach, Boston,
and San Diego. The 2002 conference will be held in New York City on October 10-12,2002.
Registration for the conference includes an annual subscription (comprising four issues)
to Employee Responsibilities and Rights Journal. For more information on AEPP and its
conference, please visit its website, www.aepp.net.
