Editor's Note
With this issue, seasonally adjusted unemployment and other labor force series derived from the Current
Population Survey (household survey) have been revised to reflect updated seasonal adjustment factors
that incorporate 2005 data. As a result, seasonally adjusted estimates back to January 2001 were subject
to revision. Revised seasonally adjusted data appear in summary table A, tables A-1 through A-12, and
tables D- 1 through D- 10. Historical seasonally adjusted monthly and quarterly data also are available on
the Internet a ftp://ftp.bls.gov/pub/special.requests/If/.
The article beginning on page 3 examines the effect of the revisions, describes the seasonal adjustment
method, and discusses the use of concurrent seasonal adjustment for the household survey data.
Annual average data from the household survey also are published in the issue.
