Editorial

This first 2019 issue of the European Company and Financial Law Review
(ECFR) marks a major change in the management of ECFR. After a period of
transition, Heribert Hirte who acted as ECFR chief managing editor for more
than a decade and contributed to the establishment of the journal in the market,
is followed by the undersigned as new chief managing editors. They work to-
gether with a team of seven actively involved managing editors from different
European countries: Holger Fleischer (Max Planck Institute for Comparative
and International Private Law, Hamburg), Jesper Lau Hansen (University of
Copenhagen), Maarten J. Kroeze (Hoge Raad, Erasmus University Rotter-
dam), Hanno Merkt (University of Freiburg), Andres Recalde (Universidad
Aut6noma de Madrid), Marco Ventoruzzo (Bocconi University, Milan) and
Marieke Wyckaert (University of Leuven). This academic team is supported,
as before, by a wider group of advisory board members contributing their ad-
vice and their knowledge to the success of the journal.
At the same time, ECFR has decided to work actively to expand to new coun-
tries and to strengthen its ties to its national sister journals in the various Eur-
opean jurisdictions which are also represented on the managerial and advisory
board. ECFR will continue to discuss legal issues that are relevant in one or
more jurisdictions but prove to be of general interest. This does not, of course,
exclude contributions from other parts of the world which may also be of in-
terest for European readers. Contributors are invited to contact any member
of the managerial or advisory board to discuss potential articles and to submit
their papers which will be subjected to blind peer review. We expect articles
submitted to ECFR to be peer-reviewed quickly after receipt, thanks to a large
network of reviewers. For details please visit the ECFR website (www.degruy-
ter.com/view/j/ecfr).
As a sign of trust, and thanks to the strong support by the editors of the Ger-
man Zeitschrift flir Unternehmens- und Gesellschaftsrecht (ZGR), the publish-
er de Gruyter has confirmed its commitment to ECFR by allowing it to grow
from four to six issues per year, as of 2019. These changes will also contribute
to a faster publication of manuscripts submitted to ECFR. They also allow a
more in-depth analysis of topics that deserve the attention of academics, prac-
titioners and regulators. This is perfectly illustrated by this double issue deal-
ing with the Company Law Package which has recently been presented by
the European Commission. In this issue, we publish the papers presented at
the ECFR conference in Madrid in September 2018, as well as papers prepared
by the European Company Law Expert Group (ECLE) and by Jessica Schmidt
