LASC WELCOMES NEW CLERK OF COURT!

W hen John T. Olivier
retired   as    Louisiana
Supreme Court Clerk of
Court on December 31,
2021, and   Veronica  O.
Koclanes succeeded him on
January 1, 2022, both made
Louisiana Supreme Court
history. Ms. Koclanes is the
first woman to hold the posi-
tion of Clerk of Court in the
Court's 209-year history, and
Mr. Olivier is the Court's
longest-serving Clerk.
Veronica O. Koclanes was

appointed by the Louisiana
Supreme   Court   as   the
incoming Clerk of Court in
July 2021, and assumed the
duties of the Clerk of Court
upon Mr. Olivier's retire-
ment. Veronica is a well-
respected attorney who has
spent the past 23 years on
staff at the Supreme Court,
said Chief Justice John L.
Weimer. Her experience
and knowledge of the Court
and its processes will serve
her well as she takes on the
responsibilities of Clerk
of Court. Ms. Koclanes's

background at the Louisiana
Supreme    Court    includes
serving five justices as a law
clerk/research attorney and
a research attorney for the
Court's Civil Staff division.
Prior to her positions at the
Louisiana Supreme Court,
Ms. Koclanes served as a law
clerk for three judges on the
Louisiana   Fourth   Circuit
Court of Appeal and a legis-
lative clerk in the Office of
Senate President for the
Louisiana Legislature. Ms.
Koclanes   earned   a  Juris
