Chritian
Legal
Society
Volume II, Number 1
With this issue of the CLS Quarterly.
we mark the first anniversary of its
publication. The response of our
membership has been gratifying, from
unsolicited manuscripts to letters to
kind remarks by telephone. If we have
approached our objectives of
stimulating thinking, challenging us to
a deeper discipleship and painting a
clearer picture of CLS and its
members, then the first year has been
worthwhile.
Now we enter 1981. The Christian
community has played a newly
prominent role in a national election
and struggled within itself over such
emotion-filled issues as abortion,
homosexuality and women's rights.
Big government has stretched its
strangling arms into all aspects of the
life of the church, prohibiting home
Bible studies, excessively regulating
private schools and outlawing
Christian speakers on college
campuses. In all of these concerns,
the Christian lawyer is, or should be,
at the core - fighting injustice,
speaking truth, carefully and
thoughtfully addressing the sticky
questions.
Through the Quarterly. we want to
highlight the options and
responsibilities of Christian lawyers
and law students from the prosaic to
the daring (see John Robb's story,
page 5). We invite your full
participation in reporting the news and
making it.
