Volume I, Number 1
Notice anything different?
You may be thinking. My, How the
Newsletter has grown! or What have
they done to the Journal?
In an effort to expand the coverage
and function of our Newsletter, cut
Journal publication costs and reduce
the number of our mailings, the Pub-
lications Committee has authorized
this new format, to be known as the
Quarterly. Our objective is to combine
the best elements of both the News-
letter and Journal in one regular
(January, April, July, October), timely
and challenging publication. We aim
to relieve CLS staff and checkbook
from the burden of publishing and
mailing multitudinous pieces of litera-
ture, as well as free our readers from
the awful uncertainty of not knowing
what to expect in the mail from CLS
and when.
In this first issue you will find several
new sections, book order forms,
conference registrations and student
intern program applications. The
pictures will be larger, stories longer,
and the paper shinier. We'll be leaning
on the Quarterly more and more as a
vehicle to promote and register
conferences and other activities in
CLS. It will bring you the news in
living black and white and one other
assorted color, as well as selected
articles, reprints and conference pre-
sentations. Down the road a little, the
Quarterly will carry Bible studies,
chapter ideas and devotional items.
We want our CLS members to be
important parts of this magazine. Write
letters, utilize the classifieds, send us
your poetry, prayers, papers, clippings
from magazines. We need to know
your suggestions and criticisms (a
little applause wouldn't hurt either)
which will guide us on the next issue,
and the next, and the next.
