JIT0'S INTRO

T his issue of Conflict Resolution Quarterly brings us back to the journal's
foundation: mediation research and practice. This issue shares new
research on the impact of mediation on capacity building within communi-
ties, the role of emotion in learning within mediation, the importance
of the professional and educational backgrounds of mediators in determin-
ing their approach to mediation, and insights into the common challenges
that experienced mediators share as they seek to maintain and develop their
practices. As a practice note, Susan K. Boardman introduces readers to the
growing use of marital mediation and distinguishes it from couples' therapy.
Every article contains useful information for researchers and practition-
ers of mediation, and I hope you find it helpful in your own work.
    Happy reading!
