T  he Canadian Tax Foundation was saddened to learn of the death, on January 6, 2012,
   of David B. Perry. David, a graduate in economics of the University of Toronto, joined
the Foundation as a statistician in 1968, and was later appointed senior research associ-
ate; he served in that capacity until his retirement in 2008. For many years, David wrote
the Fiscal Figures feature in the Canadian Taxlournal. The feature dealt with numerous
aspects of Canadian public finance, including the cost and financing of medicare, Canada-
US income  tax comparisons, the costs of royal commissions, the growth of educational
expenditures, income tax credits for consumption and property taxes, and taxes paid by
families in different income ranges. In addition to Fiscal Figures, David compiled provincial
budget roundups for the journal. He was the author of Financing the Canadian Federation,
1867 to 1995: Setting the Stage for Change, and an author and co-author of National Fi-
nances, Provincial and Municipal Finances, and the combined Finances of the Nation. He
was also a regular contributor to Canadian Tax Highlights from its inception in 1992, and
he was a frequent participant in radio, television, and newspaper interviews.
   The Foundation's Board of Governors, staff, and members extend their deepest condol-
ences to David's wife Delia and son Adam.
