TRANSITIONING ONLINE

In past years, to stay current as an expert in a particular area of law, a
scholar had to collect practice guides, law review issues, and other
resources to keep up to date with continuous and changing practices.
Practice guides are an absolute necessity, but law reviews have not always
enjoyed the same luxory. Because of the vast array of legal issues a
journal can cover within a single volume, it is impossible to know whether
a volume will publish relevant authority related to a scholar's expertise.
Because of this issue, it is less impetus for scholars to subscribe to law
review journals since the topics discussed are typically unknown prior to
buying and reading the issue. Demand for a resolution and certainty in
similar legal issues pushed some journals to publish themed issues,
where a single issue is centered on a specific topic or area of law. Other
law reviews chose to publish articles exclusively about a particular area,
mitigating the need for a scholar to purchase dozens of journals and articles
that may be unrelated to his practice.
Capital University Law Review maintains the tradition of publishing a
vast array of issues in many areas of law, with emphasis on enhancing the
legal community about pressing and current legal issues. Because our
journal is not consistently focused on one area of law, we are presented
with an accessibility issue to focused legal scholars. If our end goal is to
enhance legal education, and to be a resource for practitioners, how do we
make our articles easier to find? Thankfully, as technology changes, so too
does the way legal research is conducted. Online legal research has
become the norm within the legal society as it is now easier to locate
articles on even the most obscure topics, and also from even the most
discrete of journals.
To adapt to this changing need and compete with other legal journals,
Capital University Law Review is excited to announce its decision with
starting a new precedent and publishing its articles online. However, we
continue to see a need and value with additionally publishing our articles in
print, and we will continue to offer print options for both our members and
subscribers. We want to personally thank our subscribers for continuing to
support our journal during this transition, and we hope that you continue to
support our journal in the future years to come. Lastly, we hope that you
also take the time to check out our current and back-order issues on our
new publishing website; please visit us at www.capitallawreview.org.

                                     CAPITAL UNIVERSITY LAW REVIEW,
                              EXECUTIVE BOARD OF EDITORS 2018-2019
