                      CALL Bulletin

                      Dear Members:

I love this time of year. I will admit some of that feeling comes from summer,
but some of it is definitely leftover excitement from attending the annual
ImuiimJ i American Association of Law Libraries Conference. It is great fun to see old
friends, spend a few days is a different city, and eat great seafood. (The confer-
ence was in Baltimore, Md.) But the most excitement was caused by attending
the Council of Chapter Presidents Leadership Training program. It is helpful to
talk to other librarians and chapter presidents and hear that everyone has the
same problems and frustrations. It is also invigorating to get ideas of how to do
. ...... things better and also to find out that you are on the right track with your asso-
ciation. We are a lot more fortunate that other local chapters who are spread
out over as many as six states or only have a few members. The sense of mis-
10 i i foamsion and cooperation in our chapter is enviable to many others.

The CALL 50th Anniversary was featured in the daily AALL Conference pa-
3% ~ per (in an article by Joan Ogden) and in the latest Council of Chapter
Presidents newsletter. A tape of the Anniversary Continuing Education Pro-
gram was played continuously in the Chapter activity section of the AALL
Exhibit Hall, and our banner was prominently displayed. A few other Chapters
i i will be celebrating anniversaries in the next few years, and I think they will be
looking to CALL as an example of how to have a successful celebration.

ziii iiH i i iExpect a few changes in the coming year. CALL will be forging closer ties
with the Illinois Chapter of SLA and will be working with the Chicago Library
System to develop continuing education programs and to finally create a
CALL Web page to serve our members. Laura Hyzy will be preparing a series
of articles that detail CALL's financial situation. We are also looking into hav-
ing CALL participate in more community outreach programs such as Habitat
.......... !for Humanity. Please call me if you have any more ideas.
