July 2020

Dear Comunidad:

Berkeley Law students founded Berkeley La Raza Law Journal (LRLJ) in 1981 to
uplift Latinx scholars' voices by providing a platform for publication. Since then,
LRLJ has published and promoted critical legal pieces impacting the greater Latinx
community.

This year brought many unexpected changes. The COVID-19 pandemic shifted all
work completely online. Although many uncertainties remain, our membership has
faced these challenges with resolve.

During our shelter in place, millions witnessed the murder of George Floyd at the
hands of police. Many people here in the East Bay, around the United Sates, and
around the world disregarded the shelter in place to rightly assert that black lives
matter. We know that the tireless work of black folks fighting for their liberation began
much earlier than Mr. Floyd's death. We hope that our work in LRLJ contributes to
the ongoing critical movements and changes for Black, Indigenous, and People of
Color.

This Volume is a continuation of a new era for the Journal, where professors and
students drive the analysis of Latinx issues. Volume 30 presents the work of scholars
that span the topics of special education rights for undocumented children, detrimental
impacts of towing, intersectionality, and personal stories of Latinx scholars. We hope
their work impacts you to make the changes our society needs.

The student's publication in Volume 30 would not have been possible without the help
of many others. This bold vision would not have become a reality this year without
the tireless work of the journal membership and those that came before us that paved
the way for its success. We hope you enjoy Volume 30.

Orgullosamente,

allas Lopez & Oscar abia Roman
