We have just completed our first three-year contract as co-editors of the Journal. It has
been a highly educational and rewarding experience for both of us. It would not have
been such a good experience without the tremendous support we've enjoyed from our
terrific editorial team: our two Associate Editors, Rick Brown and Lizzie Stanley, our
Book Review Editor, James Oleson, our Statistical Adviser (whom we brought on board
last year), Mike Townsley, our Legal Correspondent, Rick Sarre, the members of our
Editorial and International Advisory Boards, and last, but definitely not least, our
indefatigable Managing Editor, Fiona Saunders, without whom .... ! We express our
most sincere appreciation for all the wonderful voluntary contributions which all these
people have made to the success of the Journal during our editorship so far. The high
quality of the Journal's content could also not have been maintained without the gen-
erous voluntary contributions of the more than 100 reviewers who advise us, and our
authors, each year. In this issue, we thank by name the reviewers who served us in the
third 12-month period of our editorship.
2015 was a very significant year in the history of the Journal. The advent of
OnlineFirst has enabled us to get accepted articles published quickly (usually within
eight weeks of acceptance). At the time of writing, there are 35 articles and 5 book
reviews published through OnlineFirst that is the equivalent content for more than
five hard copy issues of the Journal, and means that the last of those 35 articles will not
appear in hard copy until early in 2017. But we remind our authors that publication in
OnlineFirst counts as publication for the ERA (Australia), PBRF (New Zealand) and
REF (UK).
Other significant developments which occurred in 2015 include the move to four
rather than three hard copy issues per year. It has been 25 years since the Journal
regularly published four hard copy issues each year,1 and we hope that this will be the
norm from now on; the submission rates (which continued to increase last year) have
certainly justified the change. We are grateful to Sage and the ANZSOC Management
Committee for agreeing to this development, and to our authors for ensuring that
the high quality of the articles we have been able to publish has been maintained.
We particularly express our appreciation to David Farrington, Ross Homel, Tara
McGee, and Alex Piquero for assembling and guest-editing the Special Issue on
Developmental and Life-Course Criminology (48(3)) which appeared last year.
Included in this issue is our first Legal Correspondent's report, authored by Rick Sarre.
We continue to receive excellent submissions from Australasian and overseas authors,
from early career and seasoned scholars, alike. This, we believe, is both the cause and the
evidence of the enhanced international profile and recognition that the Journal has
continued to enjoy in recent years. We are still working on attracting more submissions
