69 Am. J. Comp. L. vii (2021)

We have the pleasure of introducing this sixty-eighth volume of
the American Journal of Comparative Law. This volume marks the
eighth year of our tenure. Probably because we agree on the essen-
tials, the heavy workload has not lessened our enthusiasm.
Behind us lies a year unlike any other. The Journal suffered from
the pandemic in various ways. It experienced disruptions, especially in
the global supply chain of our publisher's production process. However,
at the same time, we also received more interesting and thoughtful
submissions than ever; as the pandemic is affecting us all in different
ways, some colleagues may have even more time than usual for their
scholarship. We are thus in the privileged position to report that the
damage done by the pandemic appears, overall, manageable.
In this volume of the Journal, Professor Symeon Symeonides will,
once more, publish his famous annual survey of Choice of Law in the
American Courts-and he has informed us that this iteration of the
survey will be the last that he will author.
This marks the end of an era. Professor Symeonides authored no
less than thirty annual surveys, building a tradition in its own right.
Eagerly awaited every year by scholars and practitioners alike, these
surveys have become a true staple of the Journal. With Professor
Symeonides's decision to step back after three decades, this tradition
will now, however, come to an end. The Journal-and the community
of Conflicts scholars and practitioners worldwide-owes him an im-
mense debt of gratitude for his tireless work and unmatched service.
As in every year, we also wish to thank all those colleagues who
make the publication of the Journal possible: the members of the
Executive Editorial Board and, in particular, our Book Review Editors,
Professors Richard Albert, of the University of Texas at Austin, and
Joshua Karton, of Queen's University.
We also wish to thank our Managing Editor, Paula Potter, and our
Articles Editor, Amber Lynch, for their work and dedication.
