                      MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD

                      SUBJECT:  ANW IP/1 Meeting, New York City, 31 May 1963


                            1  Meeting Time/Place:  Subject was contacted by telephone
                         on 27 Ma e1o3 and a meetng -arranged for  31  May  in  New  York

                            2.  purpose of Meeting: The meeting was scheduled prior to
                       A/1's trip to  me       e Continent for the purpose of rrangig
                       contact with the Rome Station for the purpose of exploring the
                       possible operational utilization of Al's jewelry store which he
                       was opening in the new CavalieriHilton Hotel inRetand
                       discussing additional means for recntactifg t
                       AMLASH/l in Havana.

                            3.  Opertionl   Interest: As -in the past, A/l was most
                       generous andscooperiti   nis   attitude towards collaboration
                       with KUBARK.  He offered to make available both the facilities
                       of his new      ofjewelry store fn orany reasonable use to which IUBAR(
                       Corlet ih to, Inc.,  them, i. e., as letter drops, cover addresses,

                       or might owish ode employ f a  UBARC agent operating in Italy or
                       Europe.  A/1 recomnmended that the jewelry store be considered
                       before Corletto, however, because  ie has more control over the
                       store  than the .manufacturing firm. (It is noted that weadhered
                       to  this advice in cabling Rome of A/l's imper in the store      see
                       DIR      ).  A/1 also stated that his parr    in t  str   s
                       Juan  VENTURA Varner (Walner)d born 10 April 1914 at San Jose,
                       Costa  Rica, and now a naturalized Cuban citizn, rewho was for
                       Gena source of the Air Force Attache in Havana prior to Jan 1961,
