     Scurce identified  a photograph  of Jose Raul VIERA  Linares,
 pseudonym Gomez,  and said that  he is the desk officer  for
 Colombia in the  Seccio. Sur (South  American Section) of  the
 Departamento de Liberacicn  Nacional  (The National Liberation
 Department - LN)  in the Direccion General  de Inteligencia
 (General Directorate  of Intelligence  - DGI).  VIERA was a  DGI
 officer stationed  in Bolivia, but returned  to Cuba at tbe  end
 of 1963.  He has not  traveled since his  return to Cuba.',2,3,4,5,6

 Headquarters Comments

 1. A  usually reliable  source, on 24 February  1961, reported  that
    Jose  Raul VIERA Linares,  born on 20 April  1940 in Cienfuegos,
    Cuba,  arrived in Madrid  from Mexico-Habana  on 19 February  1961,
    for  a position in the  Cuban Embassy in Madrid.   He carried
    Cuban  Diplomatic passport  number 23, issued  in Habana on
    6 February  1961.  He  was residing at the Hotel  Rosalla de
    Castro  in Madrid.

2.  In a document  dated 3 July  1961, it was reported  that the
    Bolivian  Foreign Ministry  announced on 23 June  1961, that it
    had asked  the Cuban Foreign  Ministry to recall  their Cuban
