SOURCE  A former  Cuban IS officer  who served  with the Cuban  Intelligence
*       Service  until April  1964.


    1.  One day  in 1963, Source  met in Havana  Moro MANIFF,  an old
        friend -sitce 1955, and complained  that he was tfr'd -of his job
        with the  Ministry of  Fxt.^rlor Commrerce and wanted to make a
        change . MANIFF slid he  would do s..imething about it.  Two or
        three days  later. anut he. frim:d, Ifaon  VASQUEZ Mont:-zegro,
        whom Source  had krown  -': the Mi::41 ry of Industry, cam  to see
        Source, saying  that MANIFF had r.ent toned that Source was having
        trouble with  the militta  and want.-d to change jobs.   VASQUEZ
        promised  to telephone  the following diny and did so,  arranging
        to pick up  Source in a cur.   They drove  around through  V;dado
        together while  VASQ'EZ offered  Source a job  in espicrag   and
        counter-intel ligetce.  Source? asked lor a  little time  to think
        over the situation.   Tnw  f'llowing day VASQEZ   tele'phored Source
        and the day after  that VASQUEZ  cal.lod on Source p-~rsonally to
        urge him to accept:  Source dex.cid-d he had Letter do sr  a.d agreed.
        Thereupon Saul GONLAL'4  brought  Sourc#, a personal-history  state-
        ment form of three  or four sheets,  which Source  filled out.   The
        form included  full name, date ar:d place of  birth, physical
        description, data  on relatives  (parents, brothers,  and .;isters),
        and addresses at chic:  h had  llvt-d fr the preceding  t.-n years. -
        GONZALEZ told Source  to have no more  worries  atout his troubles
        with the militia.   Ttree or four days  later Source  w:nt to the
        Ministry of Interior  f.-r firg' rpr'ihtting. He wa:> told to g: to
        a doctor for a physical  ex-arrirat ton but river did so, and ap-
        parently no one checked  up on him.   Three or  four days later,
        GONZALEZ picked Source  up and drove  him directly  to tqe Pead-
        quarters of the Direccion  Gen_rai d   Int° ligrncia (C'aral
        Directorate of Intelligence- - DC).    At the DGI Headquart-rs
        Source saw several old  argaatnt-tne.e.,, in-luding Ftrnaiiu PASCUAL
        Perez,' Ramon Cesar CUENCA Montoto, and  others.
