The following information, as reported ysource during a debriefing, includes a description of the General Dircetorate of Intelligence (Direccion General de Inteligencia - DGI), a break-down of each of its departments, the functions of each department, a diagram (Chart A) of the organization of the DGI, and a xap (Chart B) of the DGI com- pound in Habana. Introduction. 1. The General Directorate of Intelligence (Direccion General de Inteligencia - DMI) is the Cuban external irte igence agency, chargcd with maintaining security, collceting information, and promoting Cuban Government intelligence policies abroad. It is part of the Ministry of Interior -(Minister o del Inte- rior), and was established sometime in mid-196 1. It s con- cerned only with oprations abroad. The collection of intelligence within Cuba, counterintelligence, and security are the responsibility of the Department of Stato Security (Departamento de Seguridad del Estado - DSE). The two agencies are ididependent but maintain liaison and coordination on cer- tain matters. 2.
