Subject was engaged i May 1964 under a lemoran- dut: of Oral Commitment for use as an agent in support of Cuban Operations, particularly in the recruitment and defection of Cuban intelligence Personnel and diplomats. The Western Hemisphere Division vill continue to employ Subject as an agent and will maintain primary resposi-y bility for Subject following the granting of his request for permanent residence in tht United States. 2. Subject is a caucasian wale born 6 February 1937 in Havana, Cuba. Ile is 5 feet 2 inches tall, and weighs approximately 130 pounds. He has a long face, medium complexion, black hair and brown eysa, and is nest in appearance. Subject is the son of Carlos 10PTRIGULZ Ferrer and Josefa LAHIEcA Marreso, rho reside in Havana, Cuba. 3. RODRIGUEZ attended Escuela Publica #46, first to sixth grade; Prinaria Superior 9, sevent and eighth grade; Artes Oiiio- Cons ruction Civil) one year; and InsTrtu to di Xbgna for two years. 4. Subject was a member of the Cuban Rebel Army from 1957 to '1961, during which time he advanced from the rank of Private to Lieutenant. He was imprisoned at Castello Principe, Cuba, frost 14 July 1957 to 11 February 1958 for participation in sabotage and propa- ganda activities on behalf of the 26th of July Novement. He then joined Fidel CASThO's forces in the Sierra Maestra and re-xained there until the end of 1956 when he returned to Havana upon the fall of the BATISTA Government. He %as a precinct lieutenant of the Cuban National Police from November 1959 to Vecember 1961, at which time he resigned from the Arry under which he had held his rosition in the National Police. He sas out of work until April 1962, at which time he was er- ployed by the Ministry of Foreign Tadue shere he revained until he became a staff meober of the General Dire*tokate of Intelligence in August 1963.
