Mr. Calvin Thomas of the SB Division wrote a memorandum entitled Possible DRE Animus Toward President Kennedy and dated - 8 March 1967. -At that time Mr.le there he had read about the Warren tour of duty in Yugoslavia. W h d tee he h re a abo t th en Commission's investigation and had noted the prcesasilatio encounter in New Orleans between Carlos Bringuier of the Studeclt Revolutionary Directorate (DRE) and Lee Harvey Oswald. Neither Cl/RIA nor SB has a retention. copy of the memorandum, but Mr. Thomas is stil at Headquarters. 2. Mr. Arthur Dooley of CI/R&A discussed this matter with the following :members of 15 H/COG: a. Miss Margaret Forsythe. She stated that CIA's interest in the DR. had been made known to the office of the torey General by letters o 9 January and l8 April 1903 addreysd to J. Walter Yeagley. The earlier letter said. in part. The D.RE is of interest to this Agency which sponsors and supports its propaganda and intelligence collection activity in the Western Hemisphere . as the DRE is not a group under coajiplete Agency control, the aove dos not insure that they will not undertake isolated paramilitary operations wthout prior notification. b.
