KENNEDY ASSASSINATION RECORDS ACT OF 1992 20 September 1960 ME4ORANDUM FOR CHIEF, FI/D SUBJECT: Conversation with YMr. David CHRIST 1. Pursuant to the request of Chief, FI/D, on 19 September 1960, this memowandum contains the substance of a conversation between Mr. David CHRIST, TSD, and the undersigned. 2. Approximately 1630 hours on 10 August 1960, CHRIST visited the office of the undersigned to state that pe would soon be going to Havana to redo an audio installation in the (otel Rosit and possibly to niaunt other au o operations, unspecified by OHRIST. , CHRIST requested that MA .r1 HARTER)and possibly some of (ART ER's) persom el accompany him on the Havana assi t. In response to the query by the undersigned as to why ( iARTER' ervices were desired, CHRIST stated tha ARTEWD might be needed for entry into the target area. When the undersigned paz4ted out that there was apparently no entry problem with regard tb. the %potel Rosit%5target rooms, CHRIST changed the basis for his request in that he mentioned the possible nee for protection while in Havana. He went on to explain that JARTEI) and his people could be used to dpte e whether he, CHRIST, was under surveillance. At this juncture, NARTER entered the undersigned's office, and CHRIST repeated his request. o-After a review of the pros and cons, and particularly in view of CARTER'g) duties, it was decided that there c was no concrete purpose which could justify the assignment of CHARTER as requested by CHRIST. 3. CHRIST proceeded to Havana on 17 August, returned to Washington o/a 31 August, and departed again for Havana for the NCNA task 0/a 7 September. 31 Arnold M.
