report attributed to CIA Mani which said that Major Uilliln Al-xander
Kcrgan of the Cuban am is vda a plot to assassinate Castro.
Reichhardt said he did nrot h, eyno ds phone number and had been
unAble -to find out what the story was. said he necded to knov what
tins going on because the attribution of this report Was placing him in
enbarrssing position with the FBI in iaai. I told him I would have
SR old :all hi' on the Subject. (I later Dhoned WeyW srand asked
him to ns one Reichhart and asked him to gins Reichhardt the background
on this matter. Remo said he would do so, and explained that the
re-ort in q:estion came froo A'dO.¶R who had given the information to
Charles, Andrson, vH/II, on 1 August, and that Anderson had transmitted
it to the Bureau imrediately. A'SOAR told nderson that he had ast..pted
to five this infora.tion to Reic hhardt orally, but that Rcichhardt had
ignored it ard asked him to orepare a written report on the riatter.)
2. Reichhardt said that he wLs out of touch with A'IBGAR who had
told his that he was going to New York and would Probably stop in kash-
inrton, but had not checked out with him before 1e.ving. At the tt-w
of this call I was unaware that 'M3~AR had been in touch with kaaninrton.
- 3. Reichhardt said that he was out of touch also with tunes
ortuondo. lie said he had tried to phone Nunez on a n.rIoer of occasions
but the phone was not ans--ered. Discreet inqtiries in Miami scls in-

he is still holding the letter fror Col. King to Nunez.
4. Reichhant phoned :e again at 1930 to say that he had jst
talked with t e FI officer investiating the rexrt o the alleged
plot to assarsinate Castro. The FBI man told hin that his instructions
did not say to protect the source, and that therefore he would have to
hit Morgan hard on the basis of the reoort. Feichhardt said that he
was again unable to reach eyncld ;x wanted to know if the source
a.ould tie orotected. He sug&ested that if we want the source of the
report protected, tae :iI in -ashin-ton should be informed in a n.amer
which would not. indicate that tee iaSi 31 a;ent on the case had bocn
talking with ceichhzrdt so fr-nkly. Reichaarjt also said that the
6urea_ needs additional details on the cirz.-stances surrounding the
procurment of -e ornmatlon by ; YZ:-R in o er to be able to interogcte
Morgan inteigiently.
