MDORANDUM FOR T83 RE
SUBJECT: Notification to Intelligence Coamunity of CIA
Contact with Marcos DIAZ fans
1. Following our evacuation of Marcos DIAZ Lans from Cuba to Tampa,
Florida on 25-27 July   dadvised certain U.S. intelligence agencies of CIA's
contact with DIAZ as described below:
A. Air Force: Cn 30 July I told Colonel Fishburn that we were
in touch with DIAZ in Miami (where we had moved him nsa.tle) and that
we could nake him available to the Air Force for debriefig. I suggested
that the Air Force might wish to await our initial report on our debrief-
ing of Lans before deciding whether to follow it up with a debriefing of
their own. Colonel Fishburn concurred in this idea.
B. Army: On 3 Angust I asked Mr. James Roberton of FI staff to
pass to Army the same information and suggestion as those whic-s I had
given to Colonel Fiabburn, and Mr. Roberton said he would do this.
C. FBI: Mrs. Jane Roman told Mr. Sam Papich on 28 Jly that DIAZ
was under our control in Florida, :;at we had assisted-him in-leaving
Cuba clandestinely, and that we could make him available to the resu
for debriefing.
D. State: On 28 or 29 July Mr. Gomes telephoned Mr. John Bill at
State to advise him that DIAZ was in Florida and that we-were in -touch
W ith his.                                                                                                !
2. It is to be noted that of all the intelligence agencies referred to
above, only the FP-was inf reed of our participation in the escape of DIAZ
