      1.  AMBuD-1 was requested to preeare a study on the
 refugees who were and are arriving In PDUPP.IL. It Is rather
 gontral In mature, is based on Information obtained from
 records at the Cuban Refugee Center, and may have som value
 to KUCAQE.

      2.  The arrival1of refugees can be divided Into five
-mves since  1959. The first wave occurred in 1959, the
second  from January to Fpbruary 1980, the third from November
1900  to the swnaer of 1901, the fourth from the semr  of
1001 to February 1962, and the fifth In Marcb to June 1962,
In addition since the sumer  of 1961 many refugeeshave  boon
arriving In anall boats.  From Juno 1961 through 30 April 1962,
2,165 men, women and children have made the voyage in 234 boats.
These indivIduals generally belong to the !er  social  classes,
have emall personal incomes, and are generally membors of the
canaon laborer, farm worker, fisherman or carpenter class.

     3.  The following chracteriatics  nortain to the in-
dividuals who make uw the five waves described above:

         a.  First Wave 1959:  Politiciaa, high functionairos
             of the goiernment, Armed Forces officers of  ev-
             ious Governments and busiesaes  who had iwortant
             cmmrcial   relations with the prior dictatorship.
             These were few In number. Approrimately 3,000.
         b. Second Wave Jan-Veb 1980:  A and B Social Classes,
            The richest fzi1ei,   o aers of sugar mills, large
            cattle ranches, large sugar estates ad  large
            industries.  Notti  On October 14, 190,  382 PBPRI
            compantes were completely or partially nationalised
            by the PDRUMEN Government.  Estimated namber of
            arrivals 7,000,
