         1. On -Jbe BoIf/ sad be was visited at thetshopb9 two in-
spectors froim the foreig e:batrol section -Of( J The inspectors questioned
0 -JL /2 About &W Y/1, AIfjP/2 and one Domeit Romano (no Station traces)
an Italian national2 married :toa Cuban. The inspectors said they were loo.ng
for all three Itdividual*s ho are suspected jewel smugglers and reportedly ard
also engaged inthe buying and selling of jewelry and prescious stones seized
by the Castro -overnm6tand being disposed of in Europe RVWL/2 had no
current knowled& of any of these persons and was honestly unable to help the
     inspectors.

         2. In late MA a he StAtion received from CJ(OTA/ a bootleg copy of a
report -prepared in OTA/48 k0 secton (distinct from the section handling for-
eign control) on the activities of Cubans involved in the sale of jewelry and
precious stonew confiscated by the Castro Goernment. Thi report which pur-
ports to originate with a reliable source names MWHIP/1, TUDMIP/2 and Dmenico
Rowano, Italian citizen and- proprietor of a jevelry store in Rome, as being a
ring of individuals involved -in the disposal in Europe of-the confiscated
jewelry .The report also states that AMASH/1 has been involved with the ring
and tha8tiASB/1 delivered jewels to AMWHIP/2 in Geneva during his last trip
to Europe and latii was in contact with Romano in Rome.

         3. Undoubtedly the questioning of 4GOWL/2 by the two CQ W inapectors 4 [
vas'pre4eted-at least in part on the information report prepared in @JaA'18's)
section. In-any event the persons mentioned in this report have now come to
di QUOTA `s`)ttention, as suspected smugglers and illicit jewelry dealers and will
certainly receive special attention by QUif they again enter Spain.

     4. It is interesting to speculate the extent to which AMWRIP/l and AMMIP/2
may actually be tnvo.ved in illicit business in Europe and to what extent
AMHIP/l may use the cover of his activities for KUBARK to further these trans-
actions. reveH E t:UITY VIOLATIo
