The following information, as reported by source during a debriefing, includes a description of the General Directorate of Intelligence (Direccion General de Inteligencia - DGI), a break-down of each of its departments, the functions of each department, a diagram (Chrrt A) of the organization of the DGI, and a map (Chart B) of the DGI com- pound in Habana. Introduction. 1. The General Directorate of Intelligence (Direccion General de Inteligencia - DGI) is the Cuban external intelligence agency, charged ith maintaining security, collecting information, andipromoting ubaIn Government intelligence policies aboad. It is part o1 the Ministry of Interior QMinisterio del ntc- rior), and was established sometime in mid-1961.t It is con- cerned only with operations abroad. The collection of intelligence within Cuba, counterintelligence, and security are the responsibility of the Departnent of State Security (Departamento de Segutlridad -del Estado - DSE). The two agencies are indepen~dent bat maintain liaision -and coordination on cer- tain matters. 2.
