Ring & Associates, consulting radio engineers in Washington, D.C., have recently copleted a study on the effectiveness of a special audio service to the Bavana area. The study is attached herevith. Its conclusions are thats a. Operation with two lov-pover transmitters and 35-root antennas would result in a .liaited audio service along the shore line and to the rising ground imdiately. inland. The signal would be very weak and subject to interference free teylvislc slationa on the adjacent channel and could be jammed with minimum effort. b. A moderate increase in antenna height and a small increase in power would increase the service only a small amouit and would not produce any significant itprovement or render jammin particularly difficult. c. Transmission from a height of som 5000 feet, using only moderate pover (100 watts to 1 kilowatt), would result in a significant inprovemaent in service in all areas and produce a signal requiring considerable effort to jam. 2. As these con.lusions suggest, transmissions from an airplane vould be the mt effective, while transmissions from. the surface with antennas of up to 35 feet have linited effectiveness. Nevertheless, Reference and other debriefings of persona cong out of Cuba have given evidence of the apparent effectiveness of the ANSPEL TV intrustenu in the Havana area and indicate that they are worth continuing until some more effective medium is put into use.
