   Derogatory Information on 2ubject from Pedro DIAZ Lans


     1.  Because of the caments made by Pedro Lis  DIAZ Lanz on 13 Janary
1961 to the effect that Hanael AMIME Buesa may be a Comnist   agent, AkIME's
file was reviewed for the purpose of uncovering any information which might
support DIAZ' allegation.

     a.  Comnist   Party Affiliatien of Subiect's Father: As noted by Martha
         TXL:i', MI/4rk. Aub ect stated =Lig his polygraph examination that his
         father had belonged to the Connist  Party during the zpaniah Civil War,
         had gone to 6pain during the war, but had not been a member of the
         Coumnist  Party since 1939. This subject was not pursued by the poly-
         graph operator. Subject gave  asat varying accounts   for the reasons
         for his fathu-'a quitting the Party: during the polygraph exaination,
         he explained that the Party had intended to send his father to hbasaia
         for training, and also had ordered his fathr to inform on him friends;
             --  father          the  a-tj explled h.     a-    in a  aut..-
        biography,  6ubject stated that his father had left the Party because
        of  the 6treazon which they conitted arainst his intir.ate friend,
        FZIEADES  Martines.  M-is treason was not further detailed. Subject
        .stated that his father's -xlen (or resgznation)   was reported in
        #o   at the time.

    b.   Report on the October 1959 IN2A Neeting: Subject reported that the
         open admssions of  amnia.   r=ade by Fidel et al during a closed-door
         DIRA meting in October 1959 preciptated hild~ection.   Subject could
         not, however, reneabor the dates of the aeeting. At first he reported
         that it took place during the last wee in October 1959. (Hia letter
         to Fidel stating his reasons for defection, which was widely circulated
         after his exfiltration, was dated 29 October.) He later corrected this.
         to 7-8 October. Daring the polygraph ezanination, he stated he could
         not raber   the dates, but that it was a two-day  eting, on a baturday
         and Sunday, se  tim  in aid-October.
