      1.  SUMARY:   This dispatch describes the tactics used  by the Soviet
;onsulate in gaining the cooperation of a local Russian emigre  to lend his
Lame to a cultural event, overtly sponsored by the .Soviet Consulate.  We
Ionsider thip report of some interest because it shows that the Consulate
Lppears to be still active in local emigre circles and using the  time-honored
action of pressure  and blaoanail although, in this instance, not for  the
,pparent purpose of recruiting an intelligence agent but rather for support
f Soviet propaganda  aims. 'The information was obtained by Lowell R. FAINBERG

          e Soviet Consul, whom     LINA brought to  the restaurant and introduced
  tn   ARONSON.  The Soviet Consul sought to obtain ARONSON's  cooperation in a
    Soviet Embassy-sponsored celebation  commemorating the  21st anniversary of the
r- rend of World War II and the defeat of Hitlerite Germany  by serving on the
  Commaittee  of honer.  ARONSON, as he told FAINBERG at  the time, refused to
    partiipate.
