                   MEMORANDUM TO       Mr. Clark D. Anderson,  Legal Attache

                   FROM                Winston M. Scott

                   SUBJECT           : Lee Harvey OSWALD                      -


                       1. Reference to made to Mr. Anderson's memorandum   of 1- January
                   1964 requesting that certain informauon be obtained from Conumol.

                       Z. The followng reply was received on 17 January 1964 from
                                 Merida:

                           a. Daniel SOLIS is a wall known municipal policeman In Cosumel.
                  He  has been in this position for the past cloven (11) yeara. He has a good
                  reputation.

                           b. Daniel SOLIS stated that ae had no knowlcdge of any person
                  mined Ylario ROJA  Villanueva. Daniel SOLIS' wife hao an uncle who is
                  named  Eladio VILLANUJEVA  RamireA  aad is from Guadalajara. SOLIS
                  believes this uncle was originally from Manucl Dobiado, Guanajuato.
                  Inis uncle visited -iOLIS in Coamel aboit the first two weeks in June 1963.
                  The uncle arrived by bus to -Puerto Juares and by boat to Cozumel. He% was
                  broke, seeking work.  Ho was without luggaie, had only the clothes he
                  wore.  Lhe uncle said his suitcase had fallen from the top of the bus into
                  the water at an unspecified ferry crossing en route to Merida. The uncle
                  said the suitcase contained some important papers and all his persaial
                  belongings.

                          c.  Daniel SOLIS housed and fed this uncle and got him a job
                  (temporary) as a bricklayer's assistant. The uncle worked to Cozumel
                  until about mid-June 1963 and then left for Vera Crus by boat.

                          d. The present whereabouts of tais 'ucle are wiknown to ]aniol
                  SOLIS. SOLIS  gave him some clothee and siO (pesos) uponideparture.

                          e. V. hile at the home of Daniel SOLIS, the uncle wrote three
                  letters to the skipper of the ferry boat tryiag to recover his suitcase;
