Attached for your information is.a surnmary of reports on recruitment for the U. S. Army by CubAn e&le groupe in the Miand area. 2. Also of interest In this connection is the following additional Information, a. Col. Wendell U. Johnson, our contact with Dr. Jose MLRO Cardona, has been informed by MIRO's secretary. Ascenaa Cadavieco PEREZ, that twenty-one meinbera of the Democratic Christian M!ovement went to the CAribbean Admission Center on 12 June 1962 to anliet in the U. S. Army at the office of !st Lt. Fernando Ordas. They were told, according to PEREZ. that Lt. Ordas was no longer at the Caribbean Admission Center and that the Cuban entistment activities were winding up. PEREZ told CoL Johnaon on 1 5 June that the earne group had subsequently gone to the main U. 5. Army recruiting office in the Miaud area to enlist. They reported that they were told that they could not be acceneed because they did not niest the English language requIrement and that. if they had been accepOted for enlistment, they could be stationed out- side the United States. b. In collecting information concerning Cubans who might be eligible for United States military training, Capt. Ernesto DESPAIGNE Peres, Military Coordianor for the Cuban Revolutionary Counell, contacted a group of former Cuban pilots in the Mianl area. As a result of this contact, a represeatative of this group telephoned the ffice of the secretary of Defense on or about iI June 1964 to ask Ud they were to be given military training soon and received a negative 1 T3I1 VE
