SouRc2, A former Cuban IS officer who served with the Cuban Intelligence
*       Service until April 1964.


    1. One day  in 1963, Source met in Havana Moro MANIFF, an old
        friend since 1955, and complained that he was tfred -f hi- job
        with the Ministry of Fxt'erior Commerce and wanted to make a
        change,. MANIFF siid hc would do something about it. Two or
        thlree days ntpr, anuthe., fr Vn:d, RImon VASQUEZ Monte-negro,
        whom Source had known -t the Mnint:41ry of Industry, cam- to see
        Source, saying that MANIFF had mentioned that Source was having
        trouble with the .ilitta and wanto'-d to change jobs. VASQUEZ
        promised to tel.ephone_ the follow'ing day and did so, arranging
        to pick up Source in a car. They drove around  through Vedado
        together while VASQU;EZ offered Source a job in espionage and
        counter-intel lige-ce, Source asked for a little titme to think
        over the situation. Tae following day VASQUEZ tele-phoned Source
        and the day after that VASQUEZ catlld on Source personally to
        urge him to accept, Sourcf d'ecid-d ht had better do so a.id agreed.
        Thereupon Saul GONZALEZ brought Source a personal-history state-
        ment form of three or four sheets, which Source filled out. The
        form included full name, date an:d place of birth, physical
        description, data on relatives (parents, brothers, and ;isters),
        and addresses at which h- had livt-d for the pr-eceding t.-n yeaxs.
        GONZALEZ told Source to have no more worries atout his troubles
        with the militia. Three or four days later Source w.:nt to the
        Ministry of Interior fi.r firigzrprinting. He was told to g,, to
        a doctor for a physical enxarirjtion but river did so, and ap-
        parently no one checked up en him. Three or four days later,
      GONZALEZ  picked Source up and drove him directly to tqe Iead-
      quarters  of the Dirececion Gen±ral de Int'i-igeacia (CG .ral
      Directorate  of Intelligenco - DG:).  At the DGI Headquart-rs
      Source saw  several old acaintane., including Ferznaidou  PASCUAL
      Perez, Ramon Cesar CUENCA Montoto,-'and others.
