 sWsts   A former Cuban  IS officer  who served with  the Cuban Intelligence
         Service until  April 1964.


     1.  One day in 1963,  Source met  in Havana Moro  VANIFF, an old
         friend since 1955, and complained  that he was  tircd of his job
         with the Ministry  of Exterior  Commerce and wanted  to make a
         change. .MANIFF siid he- would do something about  it.  Two or
         three days later,  another friend,  Ramon VA.SQUEZ.Monte-negro,
         whom Source had know-i at the  Ministry of Industry,  came to see
         Source, saying  that MANIFF had mentioned that Source  was having
         trouble with the nilitia  and wanted  to change jobs.   VASQUEZ
         promised to telephone  the following  day and did  so, arranging
         to pick up Source  in a car.  They  drove around  through Vedado
         together while VASQUEZ  offered Source  a job in espionage  and
         counter-intelliger.c-.  Source asked  for a little  time to think
         over the situation.   The following  day VASQUEZ  telephoned Source
         and the day after  that VASQUEZ called  on Source p.rsonally  to
         urgc him to accept; So.irce decid'd  he had better do  so an-d agreed.
         Thereupon Saul GONZALEZ  brought Source  a pcrsonal-history  state-
         ment form of three or  four sheets, which  Source filled  out.  The
         form included full name,  date and place  of birth, physical
         description, data on relatives  (parents,  brothers, and .sisters),
         and addresses at which KA  had lived  for the pr'ceding  ten years.
         GONZALEZ told Source to  have no more worries  aLovt his  troubles  -
         with the militia.  Three  or four 'ays  later Source w.-nt to the
         Ministry of Interior f .r firgrrprinting.   Pe was told  to go to
         a doctor for a physical exariration  but  never did so, and  ap-
         parently no one checked up  on him.  Three  or four day,  later,
         GONZALEZ picked Source'up  and drove him directly  to tr.e Head-
         quarters of the- Direccion Gen-ral de- IntEligencia (G-a'-r2l
         Directorate of Intelligencf- - DC:).  At the  DG  IHeadquarter.
         Source saw several c1d at'qaiLntt-nces, including Fernaido  PASCUAL
         Perez, Ramon Cisar CUENCA Montoto,  and others.
