        1. On TJune, Q8Uflf a t he was vi sited at the(- shopby two in-
spectors from theforeig obitrol section of The inspectors questioned
          0 pJL/2 4ut & 9/1, AijiP/2 and one D oo Romano (no Station traces)
an Italian national married to a'Cuban. The inspectors said they were loo ng
for all three Itdividuali who are suspected jewel smugglers and reportedly are
also engaged in the buyiag and selling f jewelry and prescious stones seized
by the Castro -Goveranmentd being disposed of in Europe. ROWL/2 had no
current knowled& of any of these persons and was honestly unable to help the
   inspectors.

        2. In late May the Stetion received from[ a bootleg copy of a
report -prepared in section (distinct from the section haidling for-
eign control) on the activities of Cubans involved in the sale of jewelry and
precious stonew confiscated by the Castro Goernment. Thi report which pur-
ports to originate with a reliable source names AJ4HIP/1, TUDMIP/2 and omenico
' Romano, Italian citizen and-.proprietor of a jewelry store in Rome, as being a
ring of individuals inolvied -in the disposal in Europe of-the confiscated
jewelry .The report also states that AMASH/1 has been involved with the ring
and tha t2iASB/1 delivered jewels to AMWHIP/2 in Geneva during his last trip
to Europe and latii vas in contact with Romano in Rome.

        3. Undoubtedly the questioning of(b&FOL/2 by the two inp tors 4
vas pre4eted-at least in part on the information report prepare in J
section., In- any event the persons mentioned in this report have now corn to
41 [ttention, as suspected smugglers and illicit jewelry dealers and will
certainly receive special attention by f they again enter Spain.

     4. It is interesting to speculate the extent to which AMWRIP/l and AMMIP/2
may actuallybe invo.ved in illicit business in Europe and to what extent
AmHIP/1 may use the cover of his activities for KUBARK to further these trans-
actions. SE'cy st:XITY VIOLATIo
