   MEMORANDUM  FOR THE RECORD

   SUBJECT:   Meeting with AM1VIllP/I in New York 4 June 1965


         1.  Two meetings were held with  A51HIP/1 in New York  on
   4  June .1965.0 TI* first was a brief luncheon meeting  from 1340-1445
   between  A/ I i   .H   Webs ior(known-to  him as  'Harry Wills).  The
   second  was at the H~otel Roosevelt from 2030-2230 during  which A/1
   was  introduced to jg-,Harold Swenson  (as Mr. Safely)  byCW ebs er)

         .   A/i had little news  to report.  lie said he had not been
    abroadsince  his return from  Europe in April, but  that he plas  to
    make another trip to Europe  in July for about 40 days.   He had
    made brief trips in May to   hiladelphia (business)  and Washington
    (to meet Mr. Breitneim  -            t   3 lie also planned to fly
    to Puerto Rico 5 June on butiness,  re   t  dising to t New York about
    10 June.  During the  trip he was going to discuss  the possibility of
    es tablishinig a shop of his jewelry fi~rm in San Juan. lie was asked if
    he expected td see Muanoo  RAY there and said that  he probably would,
    since they were friends.

         3.  A/I said he had  not heard recently from AMLASII/l or A.UAS /3,
    who is also now back  in Cuba.  lie ad received  a letter from  (UASe/2
    from Madrid dated  14 May and passed it to  the case officer.  (See
*   attached translation.),  lie said he expected something (anti-Castro)
    to break in Cuba  by October 1965, but he did  not appear to have any
    firm basis for  this date.

         4.  Prior  to his next trip to Europe A/1  would like guidance  on
    two matters:                         0

           (a)  What  he should say to U5NAFU/19   when the latter raises
                 the question of the report given  him in Paris in April
                 that ODYOKE might deal with anti-Castro  elements if
                 they could get rid of Fidel.

            (b) Whether'we  have any candidates  for him to suggest  to
                 &719 to work for him at  the Embassy.

         5.   The possibility of A/I sending  a representative to Cuba  to
    assess  remaining loot (mainly antiqjues and pictures) on our behalf
    is pending.   (H1is best candidate is his Geneva kep.

         6.  At  the evening session Swenson  had a general discussion  with
    A/I, stressing  the necessity of obtaining  more' details on the Cubans
    wi . i whom t e is involved and their activities. The atmosphere was
    fri endlh an  A/I appeared  to reat  well to S's approach  and suggestions.
    The  groundwArl/ was laid for fol low-up conversations with A/,  at which
    t   is iotended to acquire from him  full biographic data  preliminary to
    a  flutter, nd well as the information  referred to above.
